We're sick of the privacy-shirking, attention-eating advertising model, but I predict the subscription model will be worse: we'll essentially "rent" everything, be prone to gym-style slow bleeds from products we don't use & increasingly struggling to reduce financial commitmentshttps://twitter.com/DewsNews/status/1131337160156540928 …

Paypal used to let you generate one-time credit card numbers. It was great, but they didn't advertise it, AFAICT, and it was underused, so they discontinued it https://itstillworks.com/generate-card-number-through-paypal-4472021.html …https://twitter.com/webdevMason/status/1131356099846713344 …

Such a product was launched. It was great. Then it was shut down.

I keep telling someone to develop some sort of 'media token' or coin to replace micro payments - you buy the coins in bulk, like a phone 'top up' of $20, get back 200 coins, pay for access to an article/video with 1 coin, etc

I want this, but do you envision a browser vendor? Google/Apple? If third party (even ubiquitous as PayPal or Amazon), they'd need universal opt-in from websites. Can quickly imagine frustrating (for users) levels of fragmentation. If relies on extensions, mobile isn't covered.

@RevolutApp has this and it's great. Still, avoid much of problem if publishers: - Had sweeter price points than $3/m->$100/m - Provide enough unique value that they don't need the gym m'ship attrition model - Setup so superfans pay enough to subsidise majority free readersThanks.
