Most schools are arranged such that students move between 5-7 classes daily. If each class has 20-30 students, a teacher might have 100-200 students/year. Does any adult in this system fully understand any one child? If the parents are checked out, the kid's essentially orphaned.

“By the time they reach an age to think about what they'd like to do, most kids have been thoroughly misled about the idea of loving one's work. School has trained them to regard work as an unpleasant duty.” http://paulgraham.com/love.html

This is depressing. Feel like I’m failing my kids as I know the system doesn’t work/deliver as expected, and I can’t seem to find what’s the right thing to do. Is homeschooling really the best option right now?

Not defending the orthodoxy, but a model such as HTH concentrates students to particular teachers - this assumes/requires a consistent level of instructional excellence and teacher development.

Is this not assumed/required in other models?
