I'm not naive enough to think "there are enough homes, far too many people undeserving of them" has no purchase here, but it's still shocking to see people sign their names to it. I felt similarly when a gas station attendant told me that homeless people are worse than wild dogs

IMO, this sentiment betrays a particular lack of self-awareness coming from folks in LA/SF, cities continuously built on & funded by young people willing to take big risks. Both cities, fattened beyond wild expectation, seem increasingly indignant about feeding the golden goose

I don't think this is psychopathy. I think this is a way of saying that if people want something, that doesn't imply we should necessarily make more of it. Maybe we're ok keeping things as they are. (I disagree, but it seems reasonable to me.)

Since you're in a town in the middle of nowhere with few opportunities, it's surprising to me that you don't see the advantages — to the individual & to the economy — of access to cities where opportunities are aggregated disproportionately to the artificially constrained density

Right, not an enlightened way of discussing the problem. To the author's point, we seem to be overcrowded here. I live in LA, I see the insanity first hand.

This housing issue was caused by idiots in office never taking economics and understanding how rent control and building bans create housing shortage and make everything many times more expensive unnecessarily
