Truly, the foundation of a healthy childhood is being the flesh manifestation of another human being's punishment

tbh I suspect that in the exhileration of punishing insufficiently moral fornicators he may have entirely forgotten that giving birth generally involves a baby who almost certainly didn't get the chance to give an opinion on condom use

I think I can admit to being sliiiightly hyperbolic while also saying that I find it totally impossible to steelman an argument against helping frightened, unprepared and/or financially insecure new mothers take care of themselves & their babies

Also, while I probably have fewer issues with abortion than most people on this thread, I see major upsides to a world where women facing an unintended pregnancy can rest assured that if they give birth, their lives won't be ruined & they'll have what they need to be a good mom

I'm off on a tangent here, but it seems to me that in the interest of being "big tent," e.g. with anti-natalists, a lot of pro-choice folks don't talk about what a horrific thing it is that so many women abort not because they want to, but because it appears the only real option

And while those folks'll call out conservatives for disappearing as soon as the baby is born because of their economic positions, I haven't seen many admit that a check in the mail is not enough for an unsupported mom. A blanket, phone call check-ins, a hug... these things matter

ffs, I know objectively wealthy married couples who were freaked out by the prospect of leaving the hospital after the birth because WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAPPEN, WHAT EVEN IS A BABY. This is an unimaginably hard time on every possible level, can we just be a little gentle?
