One surprising thing about my trip to SF was what *didn’t* happen - nobody ever asked me about my accent, and I never felt particularly self-conscious about it. I’m not sure if everyone was being polite, or is already used to a diversity of accents. Both, I guess...?

FWIW, people ask me about my weirdo accent all the time! (I think it's partially growing up just shy of the Canadian border, partially having loads of friends who aren't US natives, and partially hanging out with super-nerds, who WEIRDLY SEEM TO HAVE THEIR OWN ACCENT.)
