The only way I can see this having any content is if PE counts as an academic subject.
My guess: "hey, we gave the kids fifteen minutes alone with their thoughts outdoors and now they're functional again, sports are magic."

Playing a sport is nonstop learning, so is exploring a jungle gym. That's why they’re fun! Kids thrive when allowed to exercise their learning capabilities from all sorts of angles. Of course not all kids enjoy sports so I’m not supporting its *requirement*.
