I have often wondered what the effect of the US going universal would do to the costs of other countries. My guess is they’d skyrocket.

One thing I've heard doctors talk about is cost vs price and the things that pharmaceutical and insurance companies do to keep nice thick margins. There are things we could actually do - at the governmental level for all my progressive friends - to level the playing field.

There are doctors out there trying to change the system to make it work for their patients and themselves without bankrupting either party. It's a huge endeavor tho. The medical industry is incredibly complex and powerful, but there are pockets of hope.

Lost in the hyperpartisan vote-hawking is the fact that regulatory capture & systemic cost disease are the crux of all this. Private insurance markets vs. single-payer is a distraction. The pipelines for new providers *and* entrepreneurs in healthcare are fundamentally broken.
