.@realjohngatto was such a fitly irreverent & sporting mind that he took the occasion of being named NY's Teacher of the Year to deliver a speech calling his profession first a jobs program & second a means of commodifying the woefully plucky human animal. And then he quit.

I hadn't realized he passed. Our world is a little less bright without him, but immeasurably brighter for having had him with us. On a personal note, he's a big part of why I didn't go into teaching as a profession, and I mean that in the best possible way.
