I truly believe that the success of the California software industry is in decent part due to its willingness to accept people who aren't quite "normal". I know a bunch of talented SW people who would certainly have difficulty in the traditional white collar world.

Perhaps also we should extend a lot more freedom to children. If we want them to mature into adults, we need to let them learn how to think like adults. Children need to explore and create, not just follow an inane set of instructions.
