      I think there's a context gap between ancient stoics & modernity that risks neutering the philosophy — the prominent stoics were winning wars, getting banished to rocky islands, mentoring young rulers. At its best, stoicism is a how-to guide for weathering a rockstar lifestyle

          Detachment is psychological therapy for tranquility - it has to be paired with the other central feature of stoics ethics - duty - in order to avoid quietism

          I agree- it's woefully misrepresented. At root is the clear wisdom of separating that within one's control from that which is outside it. Hardly limited to stoicism, but no less useful for that...
