Rats are the bestest pets. Small, fluffy, super smart, cheap, and low maintenance. It's also hella hipster and attracts lots of interest and conversation when bringing them on the train.
And if one is new to pets they don't live more than 2-3 yrs so not a huge commitment :)
Can confirm, had a very dope rat named Mr. Stripey Face. The 2-3 year lifespan lands solidly in the "cons" category for me, though. RIP MSF.

Seconded. (Thirded?) I used to own 2 rats named Harvey and Giggles. I'd make them cardboard mazes to explore. They were impossibly cute when they sniffed things.

I'm on rats number 4&5 (left one in avatar is #4, right one is dead <3), but recently became allergic to them so it might not last much longer
