I'm thinking of arranging a virtual nonfiction book club wherein everyone participating reads a *different* book relevant to a common topic

Let's give this thing a shot! Join the book club here: https://join.slack.com/t/elephantbookclub/shared_invite/enQtNjAyODA3OTY3MDkzLTdmM2FjODM2ZWE1OGM0Yjk4NTc1MmFiZjFmNzM1OGRlZjU3ZDVmY2FmOGE4M2RmMjc3OTMzNjhmYTQ4MGViOWI …pic.twitter.com/HjwNRjfpx6

Having hit 200+ members, we're splitting into several groups covering different ground. This month we're covering three topics: 1) World-building (fiction, experiential, city/state planning, etc.) 2) Conspiracy theories 3) Education There's still time to join :)

discord unifies text and video chats well fwiw

Is it/can it be useful for slightly longer-form thoughts and backward browsing? I haven't used it much; basically think of it as super feature-rich realtime chat, which is maybe slightly too ephemeral for what I'm hoping to do

Could even be a hashtag that everyone uses on twitter while doing independent book threads; everyone can hop on the hashtag to reply to each other’s threads

That actually sounds like a great idea. Because I love the idea and I TOTALLY plan on doing it but.. probably won’t happen. But I could easily follow and contribute to a twitter conversation It is tricky for space reasons. Would require heavy moderation to discuss sub-sub topics

This is perfect! I have "Start online book club" on my to-do list for months - how can I help you set this up?
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
