She does say in the following sentence that she's never experienced American prosperity in her adult life. It's surprising to me that she would say that, given her background & current status.

I would guess that want Alter wants is wealth without guilt. That's why she wants "American prosperity" even though she's been personally sucessful. Could be altruistic or hyperselfish
I see identification with a generation that has been the recipient of empty promises, more than a simple, “Hey, I deserve to be wealthy!” It could be, “Hey, where’s my piece of the pie?” — but don’t most people think that?
To be fair, with the notable exception of Warren Buffett, even billionaires believe they’re less wealthy than they deserve to be. Otherwise, why lobby for tax relief when they already enjoy huge loopholes?
