I wrote the tweet; shame isn't an afterthought. To simplify: 1) All human progress is built on the pursuit of strong wants 2) I see a widespread shaming of strong wants 3) I believe this want-shame culture might be destroying our collective ability to imagine beautiful futures
I see what you mean. The problem might be that strong want can mean both addiction and ambition.
I like the bullet point version of Mason's argument best. Progress requires ambition, and we should embrace ambition and not disparage or shame it.
