I think you need both, and the common denominator is courage: the courage to quit playing it safe and start doing something real, and the courage to empower others with perhaps even more potential power than yourself, no holds barred

Most important idea here is “don’t take it too seriously.” We need a compilation video of theoretical physicists looking at their work, saying, “Huh. Well that’s f***ing weird.” We don’t *really* know what’s up, ever, on any level & we’re nicer to each other when we grok that

I feel trapped by the tropes in those stories, like a head of cattle. They are limiters.

That's good. Try pondering on the trapped feeling and how you'd have written the story yourself to feel free. Then you have either a plan for yourself or for a piece of fiction. Perhaps the self is in itself, at least partially, a piece of fiction.

This really resonates with me. I think certain narrative influences from my childhood / teen years have had a profound effect on me even to this day. Perhaps more so than anything else outside of my parents.
