My answer as well. Many Ivy League educations may amount to a lot of nonsense and signalling.
This meme is pretty well seeded into pop culture already. Only engineering students are stereotyped as having to work hard
Let me assure you there are some perfectly mediocre engineering students too... they might know how to cram for the exam, but they haven’t internalised anything.
Well, it tells us that classes are pretty much equally hard and equally well taught at most universities. But what it doesnt tell is the benefits of big name universities: labs, research, alumni connections. And some selection process is needed, the debate is what it should be.
It's the reason you get the most research scientists from big universities and not liberal arts colleges, which have better classes. Some amount of it is bias towards bigger universities for grad student hiring, but some of it is the lack of infrastructure and grad students.
