Now I don’t know if book stores are held to this standard however, I was merely making the point the scale argument doesn’t hold IMO
Bookstores use publishers as gatekeepers; if you can’t get a big name to buy your book, you likely won’t have access to that distribution channel. Platforms like Amazon make self-publishing viable, not just for hoaxers but for *anyone* with an unusual message or a small audience

Great, but if they want to remove the gatekeepers (which is a perfectly sound thing to do), they cannot do that by simply absolving themselves from the responsibility those gatekeepers took on. Innovation is only real if it can deal or break out of existing constraints safely

Whether you think viable self-publishing is worth the (currently) unavoidable proliferation of bad info along w/ the good is up to you — maybe it’s OK if only mainstream or mainstream-adjacent ideas are available via major distribution channels. I’m just pointing out the tradeoff
