I think you underestimate how many are DINKs who expect to change jobs every 2 years and don’t have the stability (or space, in SF) to raise a child. Not cruising bars in singledom
I think both types are prevalent & both are (at least in part) the outcome of economic insecurity + unfortunate social memes/norms. IMO most people want a partner, and most of those would like children. But what people think they want is constrained by what they think is possible
