Children are almost always exciting. They’re full of life and wonder. Creativity machines. I’ve got to wonder if things can be re-ordered for women, so they can have children whilst younger, then have a career later when things actually ARE boring?
I have a general sense that we have some weird cultural assumptions about people in their 40s/50s/60s in the workplace that make people very afraid of not having secured major career accomplishments or a high place in the corporate hierarchy by that point

Out of the almost 20 people working for me, I must say the ones older me tend to keep things working the best. Younger people know the emerging culture. They make better YouTube videos, that’s for sure. But the “adults” make things work smoothly. They bring rationality.
I would generally agree. We do have lots of weird assumptions. However, we still need to work with the realities we’ve been given as much as can. Sometimes those assumptions need to change. Sometimes we need to stop being young fuddy duddies and open our minds up a little more.
I had a young, 28 year old California man have a conniption fit the other day because an ecom site acted more like a “blog” than a 2008 era site. Already set in his ways at such a young age. Yet things need to evolve regardless of people addicted to old paradigms.
I don’t know if you’re into epigenetics, but learning & plasticity may have a lot to do with histone acetylation. We already dump fluoride (and the rest of the crap that comes from Chinese smokestacks) into the water. Maybe we could dump in some acetyl groups, too! :)
And frankly, I find older workers better at many core functions. They’re just not so good at being young, sure. You’re not going to have them write a piece about “stanning”, but they’re usually great at other functions that produce revenue for companies.
