It just underscores your point. When my kids were young they loved being able to add large numbers in their heads. Now that they are teens they doubt that math could possibly be awesome. Something happens along the way and I hope to help them unlearn whatever that was.

Today I showed my son how move between the algebraic and graphical versions of standard xforms (translate/scale/reflect). Now he can look at a linear or quadratic equation like y = -3(x-2)^2 - 5 and draw it. He'd never admit it but it clicked and he was excited.
