Idk I was a nanny for two perfect boys (8 and 11) for a summer. We did only fun things. At the end of each day I still sat in the shower for 30 min thanking for the moment that no one could touch me. If you do it right, it is all consuming. Best and hardest job I’ve ever had.
“If you do it right, it is all consuming” I think this is one of the most pernicious & harmful parenting myths — any possible version of “doing it right” does not involve a daily “thank god that’s over” ritual
Thank F*ck no one can touch me isn’t the same thing. And yeah sustainably hopefully all parents have reprieve from the intensity of caring for their kids. Even if the best of situations you still have to like, be on point at every moment, and be the best version of yourself.

Agree 100%. I would go a step further and say that hovering is bad. Kids need time to explore and play on their own, learn independence, and shouldnt be engaged by an adult 100% of the time.
Ya but even if they are at the pool and your responsibility, you have to make sure you know where they are and happen to be safe? (See note about necessary reprieve)
Also to this point, parents SHOULD be listening if they are that young. One of the best lessons I learned from a 4th grade teacher (5 kids in our class so she had bandwidth) was bc she heard me being cunty to another student and stopped it
