Serious question: What sensitivities should I have in mind when conveying my own reactions to hypothetical situations which inherently shouldn’t be offensive to anyone in particular? I miss things often so if I’m missing something here I’d like to know. But I don’t get this.
If I said to you, "no offense, but what you did there felt rape-y to me," you'd likely be concerned: the implication of a consent violation is unavoidable. When you say "it'd feel quite pedophile-y," the clear implication is that you're dealing with the equivalent of a child.
I see your point. Thanks for making it. You’re sticking up for the capability of an 18 yr old to do whatever they like as a rational adult. I dig that. I guess what I’m trying to convey is that from the shoes of a 35 year old man, a data point of one, it just feels wrong.
Which is totally fine, of course — not everyone wants to or should date someone much older or younger than they are. The question, IMO, is whether society could be more tolerant of relationships between adults with large age gaps & a bit less assuming about the dynamics involved
