FWIW, there is a roughly 0.1% chance I’d marry someone that young when in my late 20s or early 30s. The mismatch in life experience and maturity would make it extremely difficult to find someone who plays the true partner role. Also, tbh, it would feel quite pedophile-y to me.
You should definitely not marry anyone you're not attracted to, but with all due respect: individuals are not fungible. 18-year-olds are not children and not all of them behave as though they are. Your preferences don't imply facts about other human beings.
Individuals aren't fungible but cohorts tend to have shared contexts and thus shared experiences/characteristics. Large age difference pairings can work for individuals but they don't scale (for my vision of a modern society)

Well if there was less outrage and people losing their minds over pedophilia the problem might not exist. Consider it's not that he's suggesting 18 year olds aren't suitable, but that 30 year old having a relationship with an 18 year old may face social censure.
People generally don't want to be thought of as pedophiles, and it's not surprising that they're relationship choices reflect that.
