I think there's value in giving a name to a thing so people can get behind it. Viable law can be step 2. If the first version was nuanced, would it have gotten enough attention to have a chance of passing?
You don't actually need to pass a bill to announce that at some point you'd like to pass another bill; if every rep felt compelled to turn the "Issues" section of their websites into an official resolution it wouldn't do the country a lick of good
That said, I'm less irritated with AOC than with the ignoramuses who've enabled pointless plays like this to be instantly converted into serious political capital, & I'm less irritated with them than I am with media that pounces on whichever narrative drives conflict
I mostly don't feel qualified to judge what is an effective way to be a politician. This move by AOC and Bernie seems to be "succeeding" by some measure. Will it actually pay off at some point or crash and burn? Nfi.
