I am a mom of a 5 yr old. I can't speak for everyone, but once a kid is 2-3, the benefits from actually being in a quality day care with other kids and engaged teachers rather than him being with me all day were enormous.
And again, nobody should be forced to put their kid in a state-licensed daycare. But there are a lot of us who see huge benefits from it.
