Do you think that they're actually getting paid higher than average, or are they obligated to give themselves the minimal salary until an IPO or exit?
They generally don’t have a lot liquid, but have access to whatever they want in loans against their holdings. But a lot of them don’t own much; maybe a nice home, not much else. It’s not a good idea to have a crazy burn rate against your ownership stake in your own company
That makes sense, and I vaguely remember something in Zero to One about how high CEO salaries kill companies. But (and maybe it's just me) I feel like at least having a place to oneself would allow for better concentration and company performance.
I guess my point is that we tend to look at various wealth signals as progressive improvements toward some distant general peak human experience; in reality, some prefer to live alone & some don’t, & most leisures that seem inaccessible are overrated or illusory
