i don't understand why this line of reasoning is becoming memetic; is the left not traditionally pro immigration? granted, an interesting difference between "immigration" and "open borders" is the former more strongly implies a path to voting rights
This might be a bit too cynical, even by my standards, but I have a sense that standard leftist pro-immigrant sentiment rests on an archetype for “immigrant” that basically means “poor, sad, pitiful soul who could never compete for *my* job.”

I don't think that's standard. The sentiment does exist, especially among more passive consumers of left branding--but it's also explicitly counter to the majority of leftist slogans, imagery, and messaging. Again, it does exist, but I think it's weakmanning to focus on that.
