Misdiagnoses and other fuckups are pretty common even with the existing 10-years >$200k doctors. (I think out of the last 10 things I went to a doctor for two were misdiagnosed.) Are you sure that's not just what hiring a verifiably competent person costs in our society?

Ideally we'd come up with a better way to assess competence than throwing more years of schooling at the problem. But I don't think we can really expect the outcome to be cheap, at least until we get AI doctors.
This is your health! If they need 20 years of school, they need 20 years of school. I mean, we'll have to look at how well they're doing and consider upping it another decade...
