Not trying to instigate violence with each other or being abusive toward each other is a good start. By that measure, the kids were far and away the most mature group of the three, despite being the youngest.

seems pretty clear that some of the kids were obnoxious, some were exceedingly reasonable and polite in the face of some downright terrible behavior directed at them, and most were just sort of standing around & trying to get in on whatever was happening around thempic.twitter.com/DSly6tOrbL

I fail to see how defending homosexuals is "downright terrible behavior". I think it's laudable.

I read it twice, read multiple analyses, and watched several of the videos. Which part is the downright terrible behavior?

Dahhhhhhh you're right, sorry, I'm trimming my nails and distracted. I misread. That's on me. You did call them obnoxious though.

I thought the one kid's half-stripdown to lead the school fight song was a bit much; some of the exaggerated club-bouncing to the drumming was arguably disrespectful — normal kid obnoxiousness, nothing to stop the presses for

That looked like a school tradition. Didn't seem to have anything to do with anyone else except they were probably trying to drown out the racist guys screaming obscenities at them. It didn't seem disrespectful just kooky. Obnoxious suggests disrespectful.

What I really don't like is the idea that you have to say "sure the video exonerates them but they were still a little obnoxious." Why can't we just say "sure, the video exonerates them." Why do we have to caveat it? Why can't we just be nice to them? I don't get that.

I mean, I think the video exonerates them and some of them were a little obnoxious. I don't think I *have* to say anything, but some of them impressed me a lot more than others
