confession: I'm totally incapable of discerning what's weird/creepy/aggressive in a protest conflict context because I think going somewhere to get amped up on your own self-righteousness with no real outlet except shouting at people is weird/creepy/aggressive all on its own

I think a lot of the people who show up to these things are a closed loop in high tension, unable to reconcile the urge to *do something* with their confusion and perceived powerlessness. Stand next to someone near the breaking point at a protest, as I have, and you can *feel* it
