This, for the most part, is an ACTUAL attempt to critique things I've written in a good-faith way, which I appreciate. I have some points of disagreement I'll run down tomorrow, but I agree with a good deal of the thread and people should read it in the meantime.https://twitter.com/graceelavery/status/1085622652629245952 …

Broader cruxes I see: → what is/isn't reversible; which irreversible effects are reasonable risks for kids to consent to, and at what age → whether super early affirmation affects gender identity over time & whether that matters

What keeps me up at night is the prepubescent kids going straight from blockers to HRT. AFAICT, this essentially guarantees infertility; can a 15 year old really weigh that? Postpubescent transitioners retain many fertility options, but deal w/ the fallout of puberty. Not easy.

In trying to learn more transition & fertility, I kept coming across explainer pieces that either downplayed the impact of skipping puberty or didn't mention it all. The reality: there are currently ZERO effective fertility treatments for people w/o any mature gametes.

I don't doubt that some trans kids are dysphoric to the point of suicidality & that of course should take priority over all else. I definitely don't think prepubescent blockers → HRT should be off the table! But it's a tremendous cost to pay & nobody seems to talk about it much
