I agree. Though I would argue my definition of smart overlaps quite a lot with someone who you can have a real conversation with.

Genuine curiosity leads to openness. "Smart" and "interesting" don't. Smart & Interesting = f(x). Curiosity = f'(x). So much more important for judging a person's future potential.

I guess because the idea of a conversation is to share things, learn stuff, and explore the world, even if you can find a mind that has something to offer, much 'dialogue' these days is about signaling and defending territory.
