The problem that’s being solved — either by stoicism or by Fuck You Money — is not unhappiness. It’s vulnerability to coercion. And based on how many people with FYM advocate stoicism, I’m willing to bet it’s the more effective of the two

I’d argue that resistance is a necessary but not sufficient condition for happiness. You still need to figure out & pursue the things you like/find meaningful, which can be a tricky additional step if most of your activities have been coerced in the past

This is an excellent point. I read somewhere once (sorry for hand-waving) that entrepreneurs aren’t more capable in general, they just stupidly believe they can succeed even though others failed. So I guess they start with the Fuck You attitude, also.

You know why? Because now when I have more than I really need, I am more fearful than when I was broke, I became a "slave to money". Stoicism is better.
