"My mind ain't gonna run me." Expressed to me by an old blues dude when I was a teenager. He used it anytime someone brought up anything that irritated the speaker. Politics, relationships, finances. Took me a while to see that he disregarded all default Mode Network thinking.

Well it's pretty much just the ability to put a leash on emotions and training to do and continue it. Not necessarily inhibiting them into an emotionless state, but learning when to use them rather than let them use u. I see your point though. Some people don't know how to do it.

Well said! My only problem w stoicism is it seems to eliminate downside AND upside. Perhaps a more Nietzschean approach of thriving in hardship (cap downside) but fully enjoying emotional highs (keep upside) is better b/c it maintains positive asymmetry. But harder to pull off.
In the words of @nntaleb, Nietzschean approach maybe = antifragile. Stoicism is more robust.
And maybe Christianity falls somewhere in the middle but in its best form prob closer to antifragile.
