When I was mainly writing, I heard this great rule: "When people have a problem with a part of your text, they are usually right. When they suggest something to change it to, they are usually wrong." This seems to me a general truth. Has been helpful in the startup world too.
This is the single greatest source of torment for graphic designers —trying to elicit feedback that's congealed enough to guide iteration without being guided into the hellscape that is What The Client Thinks He Probably Wants

I'm currently having the problem from the other end where I want to give feedback to a designer but don't want to sound like I know what she should change (I don't) but I would like to be a bit more specific than "I like that version better than that version"
