I'm highly confident that if a person read just one really good book per week, every week, for four years, they'd be a dramatically more useful and interesting person than the typical college grad.

I suspect you're somewhat conflating cause and effect - curious people fine interesting books, giving most people books won't make them interesting (but might help some). But ok - from Buffetverse: Snowball, all the Peter Bevelin stuff, Poor Charlie's Almanach.

I suspect that any person who would *actually* read one book per week for several years meets whatever the minimum requirements are to benefit substantially from doing so

Many of the people who go to college but can't get through one book per week wind up flunking/dropping out, but yes, there's probably not total overlap. But kind of interesting that you assume that attending college full-time is less challenging than reading ~50 pages/day!

Yeah, and sometimes it's best not to finish a book. Plenty of books can be 80/20'd or 90/10'd by reading the first half or so. Also, having smart people to discuss the content with (whether they've read it or not) is a force multiplier

You gain a 1000 times more from reading one book properly than 50 in a haste. It's like love.

Also, I often find it helpful to be reading several books at a time — just whatever appeals to me in the moment. Crossover insights happen more frequently for me. Proper technique probably depends a bit on the particular reader and their reasons for reading

I do this. Often times 3-5 books at a time. Which slows me down a lot but I enjoy the journey of connecting the dots
