I appreciate public transit twitter, but IMO there's a massive misunderstanding about how accessible transit is to people who've grown up exclusively within car culture. Biking in a CITY? Terrifying. Fare & schedule logistics? Indecipherable. This is not easy for a lot of people.

As a member of the class you refer to, I appreciate the call for understanding, but I don't think you're right on the degree of perceived difficulty of transit schedules. It's hard only for those without pocket computers. Instead, I think there are bigger objections.

Interesting. What is the challenge for you? Google Maps, Citymapper, etc all have step-by-step navigation & I use it in unfamiliar cities where they speak a foreign language, while jetlagged, without too much difficulty. Finding the right platform is hard sometimes, I'll admit.

I experience a lot of anxiety about potentially getting on the wrong bus/line... With buses in various cities, figuring out how to pay in advance has been a weirdly omnipresent challenge. Required walks between stations/stops introduces more discomfort/self-doubt. It adds up!

Oh, I wasn't thinking about buses. Yes, having cash for fares is an issue. It can also be hard to find the stop, due to nonexistent or inscrutable signs.

I've really loved the NYC subway/BART — those systems are a lot more user-friendly, and the ticketing is a lot more... introvert-friendly. But especially in the bay, using public transit can mean taking three entirely different systems with walks in between. At night. Alone.

Not ideal! I once got tired of waiting for a late bus & walked. Got to my destination about a mile and a half later & beat the bus by about 30s. So add uncertainty to the list of objections, as well.
