Not in defense of their treatment of Elon lately, but the media has 100% faced a direct attack from the executive branch.
And it remains true that there are journalists of great integrity who are in physical danger on a daily basis. Impossible to say they're not worthy of the designation, but also impossible to ignore the obvious peripheral defensiveness
It can both be true that the story of the media is important and that a media that believes itself to be more important than the stories they tell will lead to bad story telling
