You might think "maybe Elon is lying," but the fact that few would take that for granted betrays a modern information environment/shared reality in which we anticipate & expect a self-indulgent & even somewhat manipulative mainstream media
Also, until recently critics asserted that the MSM were biased in favor of one or the other wing of the political establishment; increasingly critics now assert that the (rump) MSM serves its own interests. Which implies the establishment has lost control (to Goog&FB I guess!)
