Please separate the aesthetic and the functionality. It's entirely possible to build in most styles and incorporate large windows. (Perhaps with a few exceptions like Romanesque.) In general, style revival means adaptation, not slavish copying.
Why on earth would someone separate aesthetic and functionality when looking at a home?

Not when looking at a specific unit/building, but when imagining, or when deciding what to look for. That allows options beside "exactly like this building", notably "combine the pleasing looks of this building with the comfy interior of that one".
