It would be hard for me to disagree with you on that. Though most students at the typical college age have no idea what they’re buying or what to look for in a college education, but they have some idea as to the cost.

My only real point here is that I think when some say “Y is the reason for college” outside of increasing job market prospects, I tend to lean on the side of Y, particularly when it’s just to expand personal knowledge.
