SSN is only legal to be used by Banks and the IRS. Any other use is voluntary. Utilities and phone companies want it for credit checks, but you can avoid that by paying a deposit fee.
Believe me, this feeling will hit max velocity if you ever have your identity stolen. Once your info’s out there, it’s out there forever.
