Looking outside of the standard school system, are there shown effective methods for creating genuine interest? Current systemic failure is clear, but alternatives seem to be nascent at best
-
Isn't the world itself pretty interesting? Kids are notoriously able to be fascinated by things most adults consider mundane. They have plenty of "genuine interests". The problem is most adults want kids to disregard their intrinsic interests and focus on externally provided ones

As a parent, I sought to break the system by helping my oldest son find external opps that would let him move past the default. It worked. Yet I don't know how we can convince parents to question whether the default high school and college system should be questioned.
-
All we have to do is convince parents to listen to their kids when they say "I'm bored and unhappy, and I don't want to keep doing this." But the system insists that you're a weak parent if you do this incredibly obvious, compassionate thing.

School prepares for highschool → university → job https://aeon.co/essays/you-don-t-have-to-be-stupid-to-work-here-but-it-helps … It's a kakonomic system, everything is coherent https://www.ft.com/content/22b497d0-7482-11e6-b60a-de4532d5ea35 … You cannot change a part w/o changing the others (they would be left in disarray). Deep change → few people → your children

My suggestion is start by giving kids a few hours with any educational books/articles they gravitate toward and at the end of the day make them write a few paragraphs on what they’ve learned.

As a child, Locking me in a building and forcing me to recite stuff I didn’t really care about all but completely obliterated my personal ambition
