I think puppies that correlate often happen after kids, or way before kids (possibly before meeting a partner). Couples that get puppies before kids together tend to delay for years.
Yes, seems right. IMO, Dog Culture is generally good — it normalizes the care of a dependent & I suspect makes the general idea of a helpless creature less terrifying, esp. for those who didn't grow up with the benefit of younger siblings. But yep, dog-as-baby-replacement is real

Yeah. Dogs could go either way. Definitely know of dogs (or cats :s) replacing kids. But me and my wife got a dog together before we had our kids. Not that we were exceptionally young when we had our first. But definitely early in our social circles. Dog culture is good culture.

Teaches responsibility and staying rooted. Increases dependence on family and community. Lots of fresh air and lowers artificial cleanliness that causes allergies etc
