Hmm, it takes a bit of a cruel task master to precipitate a coming of age. A lot of moms wouldn't let their sons go on missions if they knew their sons were getting mugged. Division of labor among authority figures is helpful. Can't see coddling parents doubling as drill sgts

Yeah, therein lies the challenge — though I think some of us are starting to come around to the realization that there are things far worse than experiencing fears, hurts, losses, etc. & being forever stuck in anxious adolescence is definitely one of them
