I am genuinely entranced by the hoop-jumping required to justify fining a woman €480 for implying Muhammed was a pedophile just because he had sex with a childpic.twitter.com/gseRjEvQfM

Am I missing something here? Because it sure seems like the court is saying that taking a child bride doesn't imply pedophilic tendencies unless followed up by... divorce? abandonment?... when the child turns 18. Which would be work-of-art level stupid.

This is why there is a centrist and a right wing backlash to anti-Enlightenment Left, which axiomatically embraces "multiculturalism" and has abandoned to tools to reason about the fact that some cultures & cultural ideas are *terrible*.
-
This is not just a centrist thing. You can have real left goals ( single payer healthcare, $15 wage, etc ) and still care about individual liberty and uppercase Liberal values

America's strong conception of free speech is very unique globally. Most of the world has restrictions on "hate speech" of the sort seen here, and many have other restrictions like laws against holocaust-denial or against insulting royalty or foreign heads of state.

I don't really understand the point of getting into the legal tradition of European states who have bad precedents of what is "justifiable" in a democratic society. This kind of legal positivism just makes law seem like a joke imo.
