I'm not against redistribution, and I think it's safe to assume you, I, and Tyler would roughly agree on how to do it. I do think the "you are the global 1%" messaging implies a problem with wealth (and even relatively minor wealth!) & has screwed up a lot of EAs' thinking
Fair. It’s just... if this take on EA is almost entirely novel *to me*, and if you have to be more involved in EA than *I* was to get the “real” message, there’s either a real problem with information transfer or a really serious disconnect between leaders & the movement
My main problem with the 'You are the global 1%' message is that it excludes those who aren't in the 1% and can also do a lot of good. This has always been something that bothers me.
I was hoping that you *would* be against the redistribution aspect of EA, but that would probably mean being against the whole of EA 
Altruism (a form of sacrifice) is seen as a moral good over & above compassion & generosity (which do not have that liability) is a deeply engrained cultural meme in the West left over from Christian theology. One reason @jordanbpeterson (rightly?) labels @SamHarrisOrg Christian.
