I suspect that if people knew the actual cost for some of these interventions, they'd balk. Looking at one of the programs Benioff supported — their *goal* is to spend $30m on rent subsidies for 800 families in the Bay. That's nearly $40k/family for a short-term patch.

Strongly suspect that the better use of that money would be to help people relocate to areas with less mature but high-growth economies (and ideally favorable local politics). Why on earth would you subsidize rent in the most expensive rental market in the country?

Because the human and political costs of relocating large masses of indigent people are enormous. See: every refugee crisis ever.

The details on these programs always look ridiculous like that. I get not wanting to build a cabrini-green west, but they always go so far in the opppsite direction...and its usually the middle class that suffers and quality of life goes down across demographics.
