friend having an iud inserted is a good reminder that we remain exceptionally blasé about how much pain women should tolerate for “ordinary” procedures

And these stories are scary, but she might be fine! My insertion was 100% painless. So be prepared for the worst, but also try not to get too worked up about it.
+1. I’ve gone through it twice, with very brief + tolerable pain. I wish I hadn’t let other women’s horror stories psyche me out, because the anxiety prior to the first one was by far the worst bit. Just be chill.
