      What defined the 20th Century was nations suddenly discovered they weren’t alone, having to transform themselves to somehow grapple with that fact. What has defined the 21st Century is the aftermath- not for nations but for people and cultures.

      Like, the spear-throwing thing *seems* clever, until you consider that maybe there aren’t so much “spear-throwing genes” as there are genes for things like dexterity and intelligence, which are pretty generally useful

      Do you have any evidence that there are environments where dumber organisms perform better, or that intelligence trades off against any other useful trait? Like, what it actually trades off against is energy conservation, which is a thoroughly solved problem

      Doesn’t really matter. We’ve used our intelligence to increase by many orders of magnitude the number of humans that can be supported by the calories available to us; the surplus itself has become our chief health problem!
